On this weeks bonus episode Matt and Aviv talk about their thoughts on the Netflix series Stranger Things. This episode contains spoilers! The guys talk about if the reason they enjoyed the show so much was because of the nostalgia factor because of the brilliant look of the show, or if it went deeper than that. Aviv points out how many references there are to the movie The Thing. Matt contends the show is Stand By Me, X Files, E.T., Akira, and The Thing combined. The guys also break down the dopplegangers in the show and more!
Matt and Aviv view and review season 2 episode 8 - Taken! Aviv stumbles right out of the gate and can't speak. Aviv makes an old DHS threat level color scheme reference (his mom totally bought a bunch of plastic sheeting to prepare for a chemical attack). Matt punches holes in the theory that plastic sheeting would stop any sort of chemical attack, the guys talk about their weeks, and Aviv guilts Matt about his wedding date since Aviv is missing out on a lesbian wedding (where two women are gonna kiss!) in Cozumel. Matt recommends watching the Liam Neeson movie Taken, ya know, just cause its good, and Aviv comes up with alternate titles for the episode. All this and much more!
In this weeks episode Matt and Aviv review season 2 episode 7 - Asunder! Matt is strong out of the gates by stumbling through the intro and possibly forgets what exactly this podcast is about. The guys reflect on Aviv's trip east and his lack of basketball skills. Aviv recounts his pie consumption in D.C. (Dangerously Delicious Pies, check them out), and the hosts try yet again to land some advertisers (get at us Casper Mattresses). The guys talk about the super fucked up ripped from the headlines but not really ripped from the headlines story of a former Law and Order director Jason Alexander pleading to possession of child porn and only getting 10 years probation. This is essentially an episode of SVU waiting to happen! All this and much more!
Matt and Aviv shake things up by bringing our listeners the first ever live addition of the podcast; the guys watch and review season 2 episode 6 and give a live commentary track. Aviv makes the long trip from California to Virginia for this very special episode. If that wasn't enough, Matt and Aviv are joined by friend of the show Greg Chesterson, the third member of Aviv and Matt's old band b&d Confusion! Matt reveals that he has Greg's old copy of season one of SVU on DVD and has had the DVD's for roughly a decade. Aviv brings back his Ray Romano impression, and the guys talk about that one episode of Saved by the Bell that everyone knows, and potentially plants the seeds of a new Saved by the Bell Podcast. All that and much more!
Matt and Aviv contemplate the meaning of life in this weeks episode; the guys review Season 2 Episode 5 - Baby Killer. The dudes are super bummed that the content of the show is too sad/fucked up to ever get a sponsorship deal with Squarespace....or even stamps.com. Aviv claims to have never seen any of the episodes reviewed in the podcast thus far, ad the audience gets another peak behind the curtain as the guys recount their memorial day weekends (sorry listeners, we're really up to date and current...) Aviv tells us more about his blistered feet and his new New Balance shoes. Matt gives a shout out to Paul F. Tompkins and his impression of Werner Hertzog. All this and more!
Matt and Aviv are joined by their respective better halves Cassie Jones and Lianne O'Shea to discuss season 2 episode 4 - Legacy! The guys grill the ladies on debt collection, Matt reveals his extremely ill guided plan to escape his student loan debt, and the weak tie in game is strong in this episode. Aviv informs everyone about his dead shoe from Who Framed Roger Rabbit and everyone discusses the likelihood of Aviv getting the plague and/or getting eaten by a bear. Lianne takes over the 60 second recap and the guys propose yet another splinter podcast to recap each episode as quickly as possible. All this and much more!
Matt and Aviv are joined by friend of the show Jean Bentley to review Season 2 Episode 3 - Closure Part II! Matt does his Ice-T impression and the guys debate how different an Ice - T and a Mike Tyson impression really is. Jean come hot out the gates with a great 'survey from a distance' #wisecrack. We learn about Aviv's strange bathroom rituals, and Aviv shouts out to @thefalldownboys (we're back as promised!) The gang discusses how Dick Wolf is slowly regaining his power with all of his new Chicago based shows, and it all comes back to the Tommy Westfall Universe! All this and much more!
Matt and Aviv are back and reviewing Season 2 Episode 2 - Honor! The guys get morose when they consider they have another 8 and a half years (at least) to go of this crazy journey. During Aviv's recap, he misses a crucial detail about the victim, in one of the worse recaps he's had. Matt and Aviv discuss his inability to recap the 'Order' heavy episodes and Matt sums up what an order heavy episode sounds like. The guys debate if a cop is a mounted officer or just a weirdo walking around with a helmet, all this and more!
Matt and Aviv are back! The guys kick off season 2 with a bang reviewing Season 2 Episode 1 - Wrong is Right. The guys come out firing by immediately breaking the promise they made to listeners about reviewing the original recipe crossover episode. Matt and Aviv do their best to explain why they couldn't watch and review said episode (not available to watch anywhere!). Matt and Aviv propose that YOU the listener watch and review the episode and send us your review! wisecracks and all! Matt and Aviv have a breakdown when they consider the fact that this podcast will be going on for 9 years and equate this endeavor to the 'mission accomplished' banner of the Iraq war. The hosts are in mid season form talking about James Vanderbeek being on the show, Matt doesn't know who Iroha Kit is (Catwoman), and the guys show that they know nothing about New York geography. All this and more!
The guys watch and review the season one finale of SVU - Slaves! The guys marvel at the fact that the podcast has made it this far, and reflect on the fact this podcast will be on for a minimum of 9 years to review all episodes. Matt and Aviv discuss that if an episode ever bums them out that Aviv should break into his Ray Ramano impression to cheer everyone up. Aviv admits to his mild face blindness during the episode recap. All this and much more!
